For the 144,000...

Instruction for the 144,000 or those who would like to be a part of that number. Material that did not seem to fit anywhere else except purely as instruction for those who want Christ to return with all of their hearts and are willing to do whatever it takes.

"Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals:... All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight." 1 Chronicles 25:1,6,7

"And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth." Revelation 14:1-3

Notice the parallels between these two texts. Both speak of...

  1. singers and a song,
  2. harpers and harps, and
  3. 144 or 288 (2 x 144)

"Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand. Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and ... in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand. The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. ... The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel ... and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abi–ezer the Anetothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand." 1 Chronicles 27:1-15

12 months at 24,000 per month gives a total of 288,000. Recall Revelation 14:1-5...

"And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God."

There are no 144's nor 144,000's in the Bible! Look all you want and you will see I am right. Are the 144,000 really 288,000?

Just the structure of the Gospel according to John, chapters 2-5, delineated... which is comprised of the following stories:

  1. The wedding feast at Cana of Galilee (vss. 2:1-11),
  2. The cleansing of the temple (vss. 2:13-22),
  3. Jesus' discussion with Nicodemus (vss. 3:1-21),
  4. A question of purifying (vss. 3:22-4:3),
  5. The Samaritan woman (vss. 4:4-42),
  6. The nobleman's son (vss. 4:46-54)
  7. The invalid at Bethesda (vss. 5:1-47)

How do we know there is a structure here?

Notice the repeated themes in John chapters 2-5: (1) a miracle in Cana of Galilee - John 2:1-11 & 4:46-54, (2) a feast of the Jews - John 2:13-22 & 5:1-47, and (3) personal instruction - John 3:1-21 & 4:4-42. As can be clearly seen, these repeated themes form a chiasm.

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ... And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone..." Genesis 2:7, 18

"And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." Genesis 1:31
